In this assignment, we as artists were sent away from the typical canvas and sent out into the world with a camera, the first piece of technology incorporated into our art. Rather than using the classic pencil, paintbrush, or charcoal, the digital camera was more forgiving; it allowed for mistakes and forgotten photos that did not have to make it into the final project. Also, rather than creating, it allowed us to observe. Pictures could be documented at one exact moment to then later observed and manipulated to make it fit a certain story or scheme. This scheme came to me after the pictures had been taken. As I went back through them, the decision was made and the storyline was created. The idea was post par tum and came to life on the internet.
Later, when the pictures were uploaded onto Blogger, the sequence was created. The pictures were organized, as I sifted through which one were keepers and which ones would be confined to the hard drive of my computer. As this work of telematic art came to life, alterations could constantly be made. The narrative came after scrolling down the page a few times, observing the images and analyzing the situations. Since the theme I chose was of a heavenly nature, I wanted to keep the website clean and some how pure, if not uncluttered and busy. The subject, in reality, is a place to relax, and I wanted to incorporate this feeling onto the blog. Overall, I am pleased with the outcome.
The technology used to create this work is really what made it art in the first place. Without the digital camera, I would have no pictures. Without the internet, the pictures would never be seen. This project has opened my eyes into a world once unknown to me where technology and art are equal.
